Linux Lite 3.014 Jun 2016
After a bad experience with Linux Lite 2.8 I decided to give 3.0 a whirl.
Linux Lite 3.0
Not long after getting it installed I ran into issues. Typically I run updates through terminal but since Linux Lite seems to be aimed at making things simple, I went with updating the system from the welcome screen. Unfortunately about a minute into updates it failed. When the first step on the Welcome screen fails it makes me worry. Also, while on the subject of the Welcome screen, something needs done about it when you are booting to the live image. It boots to the live image and tells you to update the system. Well since this is meant to not be writable it isn’t going to work. Back to updating the system, apt-get update/upgrade worked without a hitch so I’m not sure what the problem with the updater is. After running updates I reboot it and it came back up like it should. Definitely an improvement over 2.8 which never loaded the DE after running apt-get update. Checking out the Lite programs, they are a great idea. Lite Tweaks gives a nice easy way to perform a number of tasks but Lite Control Center is gone. Not sure why they got rid of it as it was pretty nice. This distro just makes me wonder what the point of it is.
